Temple Run 2: An Endless Game with Guaranteed Fun

Gameplay

Temple Run 2 game employs the same control as its predecessor, Temple Run. The only differences in both the gameplay are new obstacles, sharper turns, and power ups. Moreover, the game is set in a different location, has a faster character and a single large monkey called Shushank is the sole nemesis/enemy instead of three monkeys.

Characters

When the Temple Run 2 game was released for the mobile devices, Guy Dangerous was the default character while Scarlett Fox, Barry Bones and Karma Lee were unlockable. Moreover, the character Scarlett Fox could be unlocked by purchasing it with the coins. Later in 2020, this requirement was withdrawn to support gender equality. As a result, players were allowed to enjoy this character immediately after downloading the game. 

On the other hand, famed athlete Ussain Bolt and the character, Maria Selva were introduced as playable characters in 2013 and 2014, respectively. As of today, there are a total of 25 playable characters in the game. You can find their names mentioned below in a list. 

Development and Release

According to Imangi studios, the game's development started in 2012 with a unique aim. The game was created to ensure that it carries a resemblance to its predecessor,  features  new elements and provides a “redeveloped experience.” 

The power couple Keith Shepherd and Natalia Luckyanova produced, designed and programmed the game together. Whereas, Kiril Tchangov is the artist responsible for creating such an immersive gaming experience. 

Imangi Studio disclosed the game’s release in a surprise announcement on January 16, 2013. The game was immediately released on the App Store in New Zealand, followed by an international release a few hours later. While the android version of the game witnessed the release on January 24, 2013; the Windows 8 Phone version was released on December 20, 2013.

Game Reaction & Reviews

Temple Run 2's popularity took everything by storm. It reached 6 million and 20 million downloads within 24 hours and first four days of its release, respectively, on the iOS platform.

As a result, it is safe to say that the iOS version of the game was well-received and the aggregate score of 79 out of 100 on Metacritic based on 24 reviews speaks volumes about the same. 

Moreover, the multi-format video game magazine, Edge was highly impressed by the game and gave it a score of  8 out of 10. Speaking about their thoughts on the game, it said, "Temple Run 2 is a beautiful looking, natural extension of the series that never breaks stride for a second."  

Chris Reed of Slide to Play, gave the game a score of 4 out of 4, saying that the game "improves on just about every aspect of the original." Publications like Gamezebo, TouchArcade, 148Apps and AppSpy were also impressed with the game and gave it 4, 4.5 and 4.5 out of 5 stars - respectively. 

However, Temple Run 2 could not meet the satisfaction of publications like Eurogamer and Pocket Gamer. While Eurogamer gave the game a score of 7/10, the latter gave it 3.5 out of 5 stars. 

How to Play Temple Run 2? (On PC as well as mobile)

For Mobile

Temple Run 2 has a similar gameplay as its predecessor Temple Run. The game starts with the clicking on the idol and the Shushank following you. You’ve to navigate your character by making it jump and slide over and under the obstacles, respectively. 

This navigation is easy to follow with gestures and movements of your phone. The sole aim of your character is to collect as many jewels, power-ups and gems while completing the level missions in a single run without falling to death or getting hit by an obstacle and caught by Shushank.

You can select your perks and power-ups in Temple run 2 before starting the game. Moreover, you can activate the power-ups by double clicking on the screen, once the power-up meter is filled. 

You can also activate the head start for 2500 and 10000 coins without the risk of falling to death or being killed and stopped by an obstacle. While the 2500 coin head start covers only 250 or 500m of distance in the game, the 10000 coin head-start helps you to cover the distance of 2500m in a super-speed. 

For PC

Playing Temple Run 2 on PC might be a little different and difficult than playing on mobile devices due to the difference in operating system of both the devices. To play the game on PC, you would have to follow the below-mentioned steps: 

1. Download and install BlueStacks on your PC
2. Complete Google sign-in to access the Play Store, or do it later
3. Look for Temple Run 2 in the search bar at the top right corner
4. Click to install Temple Run 2 from the search results
5. Complete Google sign-in (if you skipped step 2) to install Temple Run 2
6. Click the Temple Run 2 icon on the home screen to start playing

Since the operating system of the device is different, the control of the game might be different than playing on PC. However, you can set the controls as per your desire and navigate the game easily.
